Senior Legal Officer (Planning, Property and Contracts) (Maternity cover) - Gedling Borough Council

Maternity Cover minimum 6 month contract

37 hours per week (although part time may be considered)

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified legal officer to join our busy, forward thinking Legal Services team to deal with all non-contentious aspects of local government law, with particular emphasis on contracts and procurement, planning and property matters. You will be required to provide high quality legal advice to officers of the Council, Senior Leadership Team and elected members across the Council as well as advising at committee meetings. Previous local government experience is not essential, but applicants should have previous experience in at least one of the named areas of practice.

The successful candidate will have excellent drafting and communication skills and be committed to continuous service improvement. You will be expected to hit the ground running and will have your own varied caseload, and in return you will be exposed to interesting, dynamic and exciting legal work. This is a great opportunity to work within a small friendly Legal team within Local Government to make a real difference.

You must be a qualified solicitor, barrister or Chartered Legal Executive and have 3 years of legal experience since qualification.

You may be required to attend evening committees and meetings and must be willing to travel within/outside the Borough when necessary to carry out your duties. Although at present all staff are working remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic and such meetings are being conducted virtually.
