These two new roles have been created within the Legal Service which sits under the Assistant Director Governance and Legal. The Legal Service includes Land Charges, DPO and Information Governance and currently a small team of lawyers. The wider Service includes Audit, Democratic and Electoral Services.

We are looking to appoint to two new roles.

The first is a Legal Services Manager / Deputy Monitoring Officer / Principal Planning Lawyer. You will lead the legal service, identifying and implementing service improvements with a small team of experienced lawyers, DPO and land charges service staff. You will act as Deputy Monitoring Officer and provide sound Planning Law advice across both contentious and non-contentious areas. In addition, you will have a solid experience of a range of local government law and be able to supervise other lawyers in the team.

The second role is for a Planning and Local Government Lawyer again with good experience in both contentious and non-contentious areas. You will work alongside the Legal Services Manager and have responsibility for an interesting and varied planning law case load. You will also work alongside other experienced lawyers in the team who conduct the Councils general litigation work and property and contracts.

The roles will be demanding yet varied and rewarding. The postholders will be key members of the Team, taking responsibility for their own caseloads as well as positively contributing to the work of the rest of the team. Our Development Management Team are a busy team with lots of interesting work needing legal support to include, a progressing new local plan, major planning applications, planning performance agreements, processing and assisting in negotiations on s106 agreements, enforcement matters and appeals.

To be successful in these roles you must have excellent interpersonal and IT skills. You will also have a confident methodical and organised approach to your workload, be calm under pressure with the ability to work to strict deadlines.
