We now have an excellent opportunity for a Chief Legal Officer to join us to help shape and drive forward our transformation agenda.

About the role

As Chief Legal Officer, you will lead and manage the Legal Service, inspiring the confidence of officers and members whilst ensuring the very highest standards of governance.

As a key advisor to the Chief Executive, you'll provide strategic, professional and managerial leadership and play a key role in contributing to the development and delivery of the Council's objectives.

You will act as the Council's Monitoring Officer, taking pride in robust risk management and quality assurance measures.

About you

As a qualified Solicitor or Barrister, you'll be a highly experienced legal professional, with a thorough understanding of the legal and democratic environment within local government.

An ambitious, agile, creative and passionate individual, you will provide clear strategic direction and support, seeing the bigger organisational picture and striving to meet our ambitious vision, through strong influencing and stakeholder management skills.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Legal Services Leader, looking for a step up into a Chief Legal Officer position, or looking to continue their career at this level in an ambitious and driven Council, with the chance to grow and shape not only the role but the Legal Services team and the landscape of Swindon into the future.
