Job description

Our legal services department is committed to delivering a high standard of legal advice and representation of the council. It comprises a range of teams including commercial, contracts and procurement, property, planning, childcare, dispute resolution and adult care, public law, complaints and compliance.

This is an ideal opportunity to join the dispute resolution and adult care team, to develop as a local authority solicitor with a focus on adult care and gain experience in other areas of litigation.


About the role

The focus of this engaging position will entail giving broad ranging advice to the council in relation to its community care functions.

You will provide advice in relation to the mental capacity and mental health acts, applications to the court of protection, judicial review, statutory guidance concerning social and community care law, public health, and the interaction of social care functions with those of the NHS.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of civil litigation, prosecution and enforcement cases dealt with by the team.

About you

You will be a motivated and enthusiastic qualified solicitor or barrister with good research and analytical skills.

You will have experience, or a keen interest to develop, across the broad range of adult care, mental capacity, mental health and court of protection, and other areas of litigation, particularly within the local government sphere.

Public sector law experience would be beneficial, though not essential. A driving licence is essential.
