Social media is an essential tool for both members and officers, and its use is escalating in the new virtual environment in which we are working. How can a local authority ensure that it is used in a way that enhances communication and public engagement, and avoids legal risk? This webinar, part 1 of 2, will explore the use and abuse of social media. What are the legal risks and where are the possible claims? It will include an exploration of defamation, breach of confidentiality, data protection and the ICO, the importance of the Code of Conduct and suite of policies, code of conduct complaints, cases of interest, freedom of expression and human rights, and the indemnity (and how to lose it).
